was founded in May 2015. As a port with access to
the Barents Sea, Murmansk was chosen to be its lo-
cation due to convenient logistics: cargo ships moor
here all year round, and LNG train platforms can be
towed from here to any location in the Russian Arctic.
LNG Construction Center lists as a large-scale
strategic investment project of the Murmansk Oblast.
Earthwork and blasting operations started on the
construction site in 2017. Land-levelling required the
removal of more than 18 million cubic meters of soil
and blasting of around 9 million cubic meters of rock.
Alongside this, the waters of the Kola Bay received 15
hectares of artificial islands.
The first to be built were GBS manufacture facili-
ties, concrete plants, and hydraulic structures – dry
docks, berths, and earth-fill cofferdams. Dry Dock 1
had its first piles driven into the seabottom in 2018.
In November 2019, the first GBS received its bottom

Some of the design solutions used on Center are
genuinely special. One example is the building of the
shop for final assembly of the upper structures, which
is the largest building ever built in Eurasia and the
world’s third largest in terms of work space (9 mil-
lion cubic meters). It is 92 meters high and has on
its sides 70 m high sliding gates for passing modules
