Year 1994 saw the revival of civil ship repair line of
work – trawlers, seiners, hydrographic vessels, icebreak-
ers. Of special interest is project 50010 series of freezer
trawlers built by Zvyozdochka for Arkhangelsk-based
customers. The current project under construction is
four trawlers 20180: three of them have delivered to the
customer. Zvyozdochka has the capacity for producing
drilling platform supply vessels, rescue ships, tug boats
and research vessels.
A new and promising line of work for Zvyozdochka
is subsea production complexes. The shipyard is prepared
to master their production, having made progress that
took its overseas colleagues years to make.
Krasnaya Kuznitsa
Zvyozdochka’s branch in Arkhangelsk, shipyard
Krasnaya Kuznitsa is a successor to two oldest ship re-
pair yards in Russia – Defense Ministry’s Ship Repair
Yard 176 and Krasnaya Kuznitsa. The company traces its
history back to 1693. It was here, in its original location,
that the nation’s first naval ship was constructed, ordered
by Peter the Great.
The core activities of Krasnaya Kuznitsa include dock
repairs, shipbuilding, manufacturing and assembly of
structures made of sheet and sectional metal, manufac-
turing of mechanical engineering parts, and marine en-
gine repair. Dock repair services are provided to ships
as heavy as 9,000 DWT on a year-round basis, spanning
inspection for defects, repair of hull structures and sea
valves, propeller-rudder system and piping, cleaning and
painting of hulls, interior spaces and tanks.
The yard has three floating docks with a load capac-
ity of 860 to 9,000 tons, length of 74.5 to 149.1 meters and
width of 10.6 to 34.5 meters. The berthing line for ships
and floating facilities is 1,200 m long and has a draft of
4 to 7 meters.
Today, Krasnaya Kuznitsa has the capacity for con-
structing tugboats, passenger ships, barges, ferries, pon-
toons, floating berths, floating bridges, and metal struc-
tures for various purposes. The company has engineering
recognition certificates from the Russian Maritime Reg-
ister of Shipping and the Russian River Register.
In recent years, the yard has built harbor tugs Baken
and Buoy (project 05Tm, own design), two harbor tugs
(project 05Tu, also own design), self-propelled barge
Pyramid (project 2453), pilot ship Vavchuga (project
P1760M).
Arktika
Russia’s largest electrical engineering company,
Northern Production Association Arktika provides full
range of electrical installation and adjustment services,
that also include testing and repair of complex electronic
systems and equipment.
Over the years of its existence (the company was
founded in 1952), Arktika teams have participated in
the construction, repair and modernization of more
than 300 warships and civilian watercraft, including die-
sel and nuclear submarines, surface ships, auxiliary ci-
vilian vessels, and offshore structures. They performed a
full range of electrical installation works for the coastal
infrastructure of Kharyaginsky and Ardalinsky oil fields.
Arktika’s products are installed at cosmodromes Plesetsk
and Baikonur.
While cooperating with Sevmash during the con-
struction of Prirazlomnaya and Arkticheskaya plat-
forms, Zvyozdochka has demonstrated high production
potential and competence also as a provider of warran-
ty and post-warranty service. Those two projects helped
to strengthen the cooperation ties with design organiza-
tions and equipment suppliers, as well as master mod-
ern technologies in the field of electrical installation and
commissioning.
Today, Arktika has a staff of 4,500 people. Head-
quartered in Severodvinsk, it has subsidiaries in Sne-
zhnogorsk, Murmansk, Sevastopol and Kaliningrad,
