Sevmash
Russia’s largest shipyard, Production Association
Sevmash has been operating since 1939 and has built 134
nuclear submarines for the Navy. This shipyard is also
successfully constructing also civil projects.
In 1999, Sevmash manufactured modules of the ear-
ly oil production system at Kharyaginsky field. In 2007–
2008, it built two universal platforms Moss CS-50 – the
sixth generation of semi-submersible catamaran-type
platforms on pontoons and columns – for Norway’s
MOSS Maritime. The project weighted around 15,000
tons.
In 2013, Sevmash transferred to Gazprom the off-
shore ice-resistant fixed platform Prirazlomnaya. Its con-
struction involved innovative engineering solutions that
had not been used in global practice before. This sophis-
ticated engineering project is able to operate in temper-
atures down to minus 43 degrees and exposure to two-
meter thick ice fields for longer than 25 years.
Work has been in process since 2020 to construct the
ice-resistant fixed platform “A”, designed for Kamenno-
mysskoye-More field. The company has been placed
orders for parts and sections for Superblock 12, whose
working design is developed under contract with Corall
Central Design Bureau.
One more line of products with Sevmash is contain-
ers for storage and transportation of spent nuclear fuel.
In 2006, the company designed and engineered an ex-
perimental power unit for the country’s then only tidal
power station Kislaya Guba. That experience has laid the
basis for the production of tidal power plants in Russia.
In 2010 and 2013, Sevmash built two VIP ocean-going
mega-yachts. It has produced more than one hundred
marine and river facilities and offers an extensive range
of shipboard equipment.
Zvyozdochka
A flagship of the domestic ship repair, Zvyozdoch-
ka operates as a multi-functional machine-building en-
terprise, producing technologically sophisticated large-
scale projects. Its main assembly shop is busy working
three shifts to build a superblock for Ice-Resistant Fixed
Platform “A”. The portfolio of completed orders includes
jack-up drilling rig Arkticheskaya, the first and only
heavy-class drilling rig fully manufactured by a domes-
tic shipyard. Zvyozdochka was a supplier of metal struc-
tures for Sevmash-built Prirazlomnaya platform. Orders
for large-sized metal parts for Åsgard B gas production
platform were placed by Norwegian companies Statoil
and Kvaerner, followed by contracts for steel structures
for Moss CS-50 Mk II semi-submersible drilling rigs and
Gjoa platform.
The first ship orders were placed by overseas custom-
ers in 1991. In particular, by Dutch companies Damen
and Svets Shipping and Trading for bunker and passen-
ger ship hulls.
